At Hair She Goes, sustainability isn’t a trend it’s a responsibility. We are proud to be a certified Green Circle Salon, meaning we go above and beyond traditional recycling to dramatically reduce our environmental impact.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU?
Most people are surprised to learn that the beauty industry sends millions of pounds of waste to landfills every year — things like hair clippings, foils, colour tubes, excess colour, and PPE that can’t go in standard recycling bins. As a Green Circle Salon, we’re changing that.
HOW WE RECYCLE DIFFERENTLY
Through the Green Circle Salon program, we responsibly collect and divert:
• Hair clippings – repurposed into hair mats that absorb oil spills and help clean waterways
• Foils & metals – melted down and reused
• Colour tubes & caps – cleaned and recycled properly
• Excess hair colour – safely separated so it doesn’t enter our water system
• Gloves & PPE – recycled through specialized programs
• Paper & plastics – sorted carefully to minimize landfill waste
Over 90% of our salon waste is diverted away from landfills — something most salons simply can’t do without this program.
WHY THIS MATTERS
• Cleaner waterways (no colour waste entering drains)
• Less landfill waste
• Lower environmental footprint
• A healthier workspace for both clients and stylist
BEAUTY WITH PURPOSE
Choosing a Green Circle Salon means you’re not just caring for your hair — you’re caring for the planet too. We believe great hair should feel good and do good.

At Hair She Goes, clean beauty isn’t a trend — it’s a conscious choice rooted in care, experience, and integrity. After more than 22 years behind the chair, we made the intentional decision to transition away from traditional, harsh chemical colour and into a gentler, more thoughtful approach using Innersense Organic Beauty.
Innersense stands for transparency, performance, and respect for people, for hair, and for the planet. Their professional colour line is ammonia-free, PPD-free, PTD-free, and resorcinol-free, offering beautiful, vibrant results without compromising comfort, health, or sustainability.
This transition wasn’t about doing “less” — it was about doing better.
WHAT DOES THAT ACTUALLY MEAN?
Traditional hair colour relies on a small group of strong chemical ingredients to force pigment into the hair. While effective, these ingredients are also the most common sources of scalp irritation, sensitivities, strong odours, and long-term exposure concerns — for both clients and stylists.
Here’s what we’ve intentionally left out, and why that matters:
AMMONIA
Ammonia is used to aggressively open the hair cuticle so colour can penetrate. It’s responsible for the sharp smell many people associate with hair colour.
Why it can be problematic:
• Can irritate the scalp and dry out the hair
• Harsh on the hair’s natural structure over time
• Creates strong fumes that stylists are exposed to daily
Ammonia-free colour uses gentler alkalizing agents to achieve professional results without the overpowering odour or unnecessary stress on the hair and scalp.
PPD (Para-phenylenediamine)
PPD is a common dye molecule used in many permanent colours, especially darker shades.
Why it can be problematic:
• One of the most common causes of colour related allergic reactions
• Can cause itching, redness, swelling, or burning
• Sensitivities can develop over time, even after years of colouring safely
Being PPD-free significantly reduces the risk of allergic reactions, particularly for sensitive scalps and long-term colour clients.
PTD (Para-toluenediamine)
PTD is often used as a substitute for PPD, but it is chemically very similar.
Why it can be problematic:
• Can still trigger reactions in people sensitive to PPD
• Often marketed as gentler, but not always tolerated
A PTD-free formula provides an added layer of protection for clients seeking truly low-sensitization colour options.
RESORCINOL
Resorcinol helps stabilize colour and support pigment development.
Why it can be problematic:
• Known to irritate skin and eyes
• Can disrupt the scalp’s natural balance
• Raises environmental concerns once washed down the drain
Resorcinol-free colour supports a healthier scalp and a lighter environmental footprint.
